This residential design for a small lot near Liberty Park is the result of partnership with Modern Union and Sausage Construction. Tight site restrictions and a small build-able envelope required a creative form in order to fit the desired spaces the client needed.
To work with the tight site while maintaining set-backs, clearances, build-able area, and design ordinances the design carves and pushes into the outer face of the envelope. The idea of “a creamy inside” was derived and helped lead design decisions. A durable matte charcoal metal skin wraps the home. Areas that were carved and pushed into the primary rectangular form are clad in pre-weathered natural cedar siding. The natural wood continues to the interior of the home and is combined with white colored walls and neutral finishes creating a warm, bright, and light filled interior space. Custom casework design and fabrication by Modern Union creates a truly unique home perfectly tailored to the clients. The home’s form results in a surprising high ceiling space that feels larger than the small footprint and site would suggest.
